Coastal Observations, Mechanisms, and Predictions Across Systems and Scales.

  • Coordinate and work with other analysts to integrate module models into larger system assemblies
    • Build simulation capabilities for advanced modeling purposes using Python, C++ or other programming languages;
    • Process 3D digital elevation model data to generate high-quality meshes appropriate for numerical simulation;
    • Build computational pipelines for large-scale simulations in HPC environments;
    • To develop predictive understanding of the causes, mechanisms, and consequences of the shift between biochemical conditions at sediment-water interfaces.

Solving and predicting physic processes using machine learning algorithms

February 01, 2021

Talk, Penn state, State college, US

  • Design a novel model, OpenPINN, combining deep learning and an unsupervised learning algorithm, to solve the physical processes, such as two-dimensional heat transfer within irregular domain;
  • Implement several physical models into the library of OpenPINN, and increase the accuracy (98&\%&) and applicability of predictive models through algorithmic or architectural improvements;
  • Work with application domain and high performance computing experts to ensure the required model fidelity while optimizing model training and execution performance on HPC platforms.

  • Develop an open-source solver, {https://github.com/hiter-joe/hyporheicFoam}{HyporheicFOAM}, based on the computational platform {(https://openfoam.org/)}{OpenFOAM}, to include full surface-subsurface coupling under dynamic conditions and extend it further to include biogeochemical reactive transport in porous media;
  • Analyze the large amount of data obtained from model simulations, explain the physical mechanisms behind the scenarios, and improve the empirical formulations for multi-scale predictions.
